An Investigation: Where Do All the Missing Socks Go?

An Investigation: Where Do All the Missing Socks Go?

It started, as all great mysteries do, with a single sock.

One sock in the laundry basket. Its partner: gone. Vanished. No note. No goodbye.

I knew what I had to do. I became a detective.

Suspect #1: The Dryer. It had opportunity. It had motive (it eats everything — buttons, coins, my favorite hair tie). But the dryer had an alibi: it was "just doing its job." Convenient.

Suspect #2: The Human. The human does the laundry. The human also loses their keys three times a day. Suspicious? Yes. Guilty? Unproven.

Suspect #3: The Space Under the Bed. I conducted a thorough search of the space under the bed. Findings: three dust bunnies, one missing earring, and an excellent nap spot. No socks. The dust bunnies refused to comment.

The breakthrough: I staked out the laundry room for six hours. (I napped for five of them. Stakeouts are exhausting.) And then I saw it: a sock, clinging to the inside of a fitted sheet with static electricity, hiding in plain sight.

Conclusion: The socks were never missing. They were just... stuck. To sheets. To each other. To the inside of the dryer door, living their best secret lives.

Case closed. The dryer has been cleared of all charges, though I still don't trust it.

The fine-ish print: If you're missing a sock right now, check inside your fitted sheets. Thank me later.
